What is the OpenConstruct Community?

The OpenConstruct Community is a global, open, data-driven initiative created to accelerate learning, collaboration, and responsible AI adoption across the construction, infrastructure, and AEC ecosystem.

It is led jointly by:

  • CICA — The Confederation of International Contractors’ Associations, representing thousands of contractors across the world
  • Taiyō.AI — The global infrastructure intelligence platform
  • Over two dozen international partners, including contractors, consultants, engineering associations, academic institutions, and industry federations

Together, the community aims to equip the world’s builders with the knowledge, tools, and shared standards needed to use AI and data responsibly, effectively, and transparently.

1. Purpose of the OpenConstruct Community

The construction sector is the world’s largest industry — yet also one of the last to digitize. Fragmented data, inconsistent terminology, knowledge silos, and slow learning cycles have made it difficult for organizations to adopt AI safely and strategically.

The OpenConstruct Community was created to solve this.

Mission Statement

To build an open, data-driven community where contractors, engineers, suppliers, consultants, developers, insurers, public agencies, and researchers can educate, share, and innovate together—using rigorous data + domain-specific AI to improve decision-making, reduce risk, and accelerate progress across global infrastructure.

This mission focuses on four pillars:

1. Educate

Provide accessible education about AI, data standards, best practices, and use cases tailored to the AEC industry—not generic AI guidance.

2. Share

Enable organizations across the ecosystem to share insights, prompt patterns, lessons learned, and practical workflows that work in real projects and real markets.

3. Network

Create a global forum linking international contractors, engineering firms, suppliers, consultants, investors, governments, and academia.

4. Learn

Accelerate collective learning so the industry can move from slow, isolated adoption to fast, standardized, safe AI-enabled operations.

Mantra: Learn more. Develop faster. Build smarter.

2. Why OpenConstruct Matters

The industry is fragmented

Hundreds of thousands of project, procurement, and regulatory sources exist globally—none of which are updated consistently.

AI adoption must be grounded in domain expertise

Generic LLMs cannot understand delivery models, bid data, procurement rules, risk frameworks, or project life cycles without training and structure.

No shared knowledge base existed — until now

OpenConstruct brings together:

  • Real project and procurement data
  • Domain-specific prompts
  • AI tools and agents tuned for infrastructure
  • Shared lessons across companies and regions
  • Best practices for safety, transparency, and responsible adoption
  • A growing ecosystem of global partners

It is the first true open learning ecosystem for AI in construction.

3. Who is the community for?

The community is open to all participants in the infrastructure lifecycle:

  • Contractors, EPCs & international builders
  • Suppliers & OEMs (materials, equipment, systems)
  • Consultants & engineering firms
  • Infrastructure investors & lenders
  • Public sector agencies, cities, ministries, regulators
  • Multilaterals & development banks
  • Academics, researchers, training institutions
  • Technology providers & ConTech firms

Anyone working to build or operate infrastructure can join, learn, and contribute.

4. What resources does OpenConstruct provide?

The community has three major pillars of resources:

A. Community Guidelines

The guidelines explain:

  • How to use AI safely in the AEC environment
  • Data governance principles
  • Responsible use of AI in procurement, bidding, design, and operations
  • Transparency expectations
  • How community members can share knowledge and collaborate
  • Ethical use, attribution, and anti-misinformation policies
  • Standards for prompt design, tool usage, and content quality

These guidelines ensure all participants benefit from trusted practices rooted in data, engineering, and policy expertise.

B. Prompt Library

✓ 100% domain-specific

Focused exclusively on infrastructure and construction, with technical accuracy and sector knowledge built in.

✓ Based on real data

Powered by the Taiyō Data-Mesh (35k+ official sources, 65 years of procurement & project history), not just text and opinions.

✓ Grounded in global industry groups

Shaped by CICA, national associations, and global partners—not just by a single company.

✓ Practical and workflow-oriented

Designed to help teams perform actual tasks: market analysis, bidding, research, risk evaluation, planning, resilience.

✓ Open and collaborative

Everyone contributes: prompts, lessons, tools, standards, case studies, and ideas.

7. The future of OpenConstruct

The roadmap includes:

  • Community-led standards for AI safety in construction
  • Shared benchmarking datasets
